join and live with their family members residing in Germany. The family members can either

Sponsorship Eligibility
To sponsor a family member for a dependent visa, the sponsor must be one of the following:
1. A German citizen
2. A German permanent resident
3. An eligible citizen who is usually resident in Germany
Eligibility Requirements for the Sponsor
Age: The sponsor must be at least 18 years old.
Residency Requirement: The sponsor must be residing in Germany.
Financial Ability: The sponsor must demonstrate the ability to financially support
the family member being sponsored. This is to ensure that the sponsored family member will
not need to seek financial assistance from the government upon arrival in Germany.
Undertaking: The sponsor must sign an undertaking to financially support the
sponsored family member for a specific period. For spouses or common-law partners, the
undertaking period is generally three years from the date the sponsored person becomes a

Eligibility for a German Family Visa
1. A spouse or a registered partner.
2. An unmarried, major child is eligible only to prevent certain hardships.

Documents Required
1. An Indian passport that is valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the stay period. A
photocopy of the passport pages containing visa stamps or entry stamps, if any.
2. Two photographs that were taken according to the photo specification laid down by the
ICAO.
